Before buying
- List your first three projects and set a budget for each.
- Measure gates, paths, and storage space.
- Check what you already own and what neighbors can lend.
Buy for regular jobs
- Work gloves and eye protection suited to the task.
- A shovel and rake for everyday ground work.
- A cart sized to your paths and manageable loads.
- Fencing pliers if wire-fence repairs are on your list.
- Feed storage and cleaning tools if you keep animals.
Borrow or rent for occasional jobs
- Compare rental costs before buying a powered auger or stump grinder.
- Book equipment only after checking access and operator requirements.
Plan the property
- Map fence lines and gates before ordering materials.
- Check water access and seasonal maintenance needs.
